ACIC has been involved with Youth for Gender Equality since early 2018.

ACIC is a primary partner in a PLAN International Canada led initiative that seeks to see Canada and global political leaders deliver tangible, new initiatives to achieve the gender equality goal and targets of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our accomplishments/role on this project to date are:

  • ACIC staff takes part on the steering committee

  • ACIC staff participates on the media working group

  • ACIC successfully hosted 7 of the 30 YGE dialogues hosted across the country and 1 of the 8 dialogues hosted with MPs (Matt Decourcey, parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chrystia Freeland)

  • 1 ACIC youth (from St. John’s, NL) was selected to attend the first YGE conference in Ottawa and in addition was selected as 1 of the 4 from conference participants to speak on a Gender Equality panel at the Y7 Summit

  • Of the 30-youth selected nationally, 3 ACIC youth were selected to attend the YGE Writers Conference in March in Ottawa (1 from St. John’s, NL and 2 from Sipekne’katik First Nation)

  • 1 ACIC youth was selected to be 1 of 10 YGE youth delegates at the Women Deliver Conference
