What inspires you to ACT for Global Change in your community?
My peers inspire me to ACT for Global Change in my community. My classmates and friends are so full of bright ideas, and want to make the world around them a better place. Engaging in conversation with them encourages me to take action for a better world.
What’s the best part of being a youth ambassador for ACT 4 Global Change?
The best part of being a youth ambassador for ACT 4 Global Change is having access to the networks and resources I might need to affect meaningful, positive change.
What is your favourite quote and why?
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world” from Mahatma Gandhi is my favourite quote. It’s probably not very original, but I think the quote is so powerful because of its simplicity. It gives people, me included, a nice reassurance that they really can make a difference, even if it is just in themselves.
If you had a free day to spend any way you wanted to, what would you do?
I would wake up early to see the sun rise. Then, I would spend time with my friends. With them I would try new things like painting or maybe work on old skills like writing. I would find a place to volunteer, so I could spend some of my happy time brightening someone else’s day. In the evening I would find a beach and a double-scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream, and I would sit on the sand to watch the sun set. Then, at home, I would start a good book and watch a nice movie, and end the night with a cup of hot cocoa with my family.
What Sustainable Development Goal are you most passionate about and why?
I am most passionate about Goal #5:to achieve gender equality and empower all girls. I think that in order to move forward as a global community, it is essential that we strive for equality and equity amongst all people. A lovely place to start would be with gender. If we can curb feelings of insignificance or unimportance that stem from a factor as broad as gender, more people will be able to recognize their role as global citizens and move forward towards accomplishing the other goals.
